About Alive! Email Messages
Each of the 12 Project Alive! email messages will contain 4-5 Small Step Goals, 4-5 tips for achieving those goals (Your Goal Coach), information about the health effects of diet and physical activity (Headline News and Health Notes), a Goal Tracker for keeping track of the goals you’ve achieved, a Simulator Tool (What if?...) for seeing the effect of small diet and physical activity changes, and Links to other resources and information.
Small Step Goals:
With each Project Alive! email message, you will be given a choice of 4-5 practical, small step goals and asked to commit to one or two of those goals for the following week. The goals directly relate to your eating or physical activity behavior. For instance,
If you are working on eating more fruits and veggies, a small step goal might be, “I will have a piece of fruit for a snack every day this week.”
If you are working on selecting healthy fats and carbs, a small step goal might be, “I will substitute fish, chicken, or a vegetarian dish for red meat for two meals this week.”
If you are working on moving more and sitting less, a small step goal might be, “I will walk for 15 minutes at lunchtime 3 days this week.”
Your Goal Coach:
Project Alive! provides tips that help you achieve your small step goals. The tips offer specific suggestions, such as “To make physical activity fun, find an activity you enjoy doing. This can be by yourself or one that you can do with other people. Seek out an activity you can do in an environment that makes you feel good.” The tips also help you problem-solve. For instance, if you find you are having trouble making time for your physical activity goal, a tip might suggest that you schedule your exercise time into your calendar.
Headline News and Health Notes:
The Headline News and Health Notes provide you with practical information about diet and physical activity, and are included to give you the facts about why it is important to actively promote your health. They will help educate you about the research out there that supports a healthy lifestyle and, among other things, give you concrete examples of how eating healthy and being physically active can decrease the likelihood of getting certain diseases.
