Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
Description: This study will establish a joint San Francisco Bay Area Clinical Center between Kaiser Permanente, Northern California, and University of California, San Francisco, to contribute to the NIDDK-sponsored cohort of 3,000 patients with mild-to-moderate chronic renal insufficiency.
Heart Failure Incidence and Progression in Renal Disease
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/NIH/DHHS
Description: This ancillary study to the CRIC Study will describe the epidemiology of chronic heart failure prevalence and incidence among 3000 adults with mid-to-moderate chronic kidney disease and to examine how the severity of kidney dysfunction affect the prognosis and disease-specific quality of life in patients with kidney disease and chronic heart failure.
Linking Acute, Chronic and End-Stage Renal Disease
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases
Description: This study will examine the natural history of chronic renal insufficiency, its association with the risk of acute renal failure, and the impact of acute renal failure on the future short-and long-term risk of end-stage renal disease, and whether associated risks vary by key demographic characteristics as well as relevant comorbid conditions.
Linking Acute Chronic and end-Stage Renal Failure
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/NIH/DHHS
Description: This grant will examine the natural history of chronic renal insufficiency, its association with the risk of acute renal failure on the future short-and long-term risk of end-stage renal disease among ~2,000,000 adult members within Kaiser Permanente of Northern California with known renal function between 1996 – 2005.
Pulse Wave Velocity in Chronic Kidney Disease
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/NIH/DHHS
Description: This project will describe the spectrum of pulse wave velocity (PMV) values, a measure of aortic stiffness, in a large cohort of adults with chronic renal insufficiency, and also examine the incremental value of PMV measurements in predicting progression of kidney dysfunction and the development and progression of cardiovascular disease in the setting of chronic kidney disease.
Risk Factors for End-Stage Renal Disease: The Kaiser Multiphasic Cohort Study
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Carlos Iribarren, MD, MPH, PhD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/NIH/DHHS
Description: The specific aim of this study is to define prospectively the relationship between baseline exposures and future risk of end-stage renal disease (ESRD).
Toward the Optimal Timing of Initiation of Dialysis: An Evidence-Based Approach
Division of Research Principal Investigator: Alan Go, MD
Primary Source of Funding: National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK)
Description: This project seeks to determine demographic, clinical and laboratory factors associated with patient outcomes among Kaiser patients with moderate and advanced chronic renal insufficiency.
