Joan C. Lo, MD, is a Physician Scientistat the Division of Research (DOR), Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. She is also an Assistant Professor in the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine at the University of California. Dr. Lo is also a Scholar with the joint UCSF-DOR Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women's Health (BIRCWH) Program.
Dr. Lo’s research interests include polycystic ovary syndrome and associated reproductive and metabolic outcomes; insulin resistance; metabolic syndrome; osteoporosis treatment and outcomes; and endocrine/metabolic disorders associated with renal disease and HIV infection. Dr. Lo’s previous research focused on understanding the metabolic and body composition abnormalities associated with HIV infection and its therapies, including insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, lipodystrophy, and osteopenia.
