Lisa Herrinton, PhD, is a Research Scientist at the Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. She is an Associate Editor with the American Journal of Epidemiology and a Lecturer with the Department of Health Research and Policy, Stanford University School of Medicine. Dr. Herrinton received her doctoral training at the University of Washington and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, and her Master's training at Harvard University. Before her training in epidemiology, she was an environmental health scientist, consulting on health risk assessment to industry and government. She also served as a high school science and math teacher through the Peace Corps in Swaziland, Africa.

Dr. Herrinton directs a program in inflammatory bowel disease that is focused on epidemiology, quality of care, and outcomes. She also serves as site Principal Investigator on several research consortia organized under the HMO Research Network, including the Cancer Research Network and the Centers for Education and Research in Therapeutics. She leads and participates in numerous collaborative projects concerned primarily with health care effectiveness, as well as patient-reported quality of life. Her studies have involved data collection through linkage, medical record review, patient survey, provider survey, and qualitative approaches such as guided interviewing and focus groups. In addition, she provides service to her colleagues through work on planning and review committees.

Besides her work, Dr. Herrinton also enjoys her family and friends, books and hiking.
