Bette Caan, DrPH is a senior research scientist at the Division of Research (DOR) Kaiser Permanente Northern California with a focus in nutritional epidemiology. Dr. Caan’s scientific publications number over 115. She is a reviewer for several nutrition and epidemiology journals and an ad hoc reviewer for several National Institute of Health study sections. Her current research interests include dietary and anthropometric risk factors for cancer and cancer survival, dietary measurement and assessment, dietary intervention methods, and behavioral determinants and management of childhood obesity...

Dr. Caan is the Principal Investigator(PI) of the California Men’s Health Study, a cohort of 84,000 Kaiser Permenante men funded by the California Cancer Program to study etiological factors related to prostate cancer and other health outcomes. She is also PI of one of the clinical centers of the Women’s Health Initiative. The majority of her additional funding is from grants and contracts from the National Cancer Institute to test dietary interventions or determine lifestyle changes that may be helpful in the prevention or recurrence of cancer.
