Kaiser Foundation Research Institute (KFRI) was established in 1958 to administer and support research efforts at Kaiser Permanente, Northern California. KFRI is responsible for compliance with all federal regulations governing the administration and implementation of research, particularly for compliance with federal requirements that protect the welfare of Kaiser Permanente members who participate as research subjects. Member information and records are equally protected under these regulations. KFRI offers comprehensive review and support services to investigators to ensure compliance with federal regulations. As part of that function, KFRI provides the administrative base for the IRB at its Oakland offices. The DOR Manager for Research Compliance works closely with KFRI staff on IRB and other compliance matters and serves as the primary contact person with KFRI for those purposes.
