Pharmacoepidemiology

According to the Federal Drug Administration, in any given week, half of US adults will use prescription medicines and 10 percent will take at least five different ones. Our research uses historical data, the electronic health record, and the research data base to support safe prescription drug use, to monitor interactions between therapeutic agents, and to study the effectiveness of drug therapy.

Data Mining Electronic Health Records for Drug Adverse Events

When a new pharmaceutical drug enters the market, there are always questions about its effectiveness and safety profile in comparison with other related drugs; this project will use two data mining methods (the tree-based scan statistic and Bayesian gamma Poisson shrinkage) to search for unexpected drug adverse events.
