Preety Kalra, MS, PhD, is a staff scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. She obtained her MS in Epidemiology from Stanford University and her PhD in Epidemiology from the University of California at Berkeley with an emphasis on epidemiologic methods and social epidemiology. Before joining the DOR, Dr. Kalra employed a mixed-methods approach to understand health inequality issues related to access, treatment, and outcomes including positions at the National Asian Women’s Health Organization and the Asian and Pacific Islander American Health Forum. Her work has focused on examining the role of contextual factors and health disparities. She has conducted qualitative research to examine the impact of immigration status on diet, physical activity and acculturative stress on cardiovascular risk perceptions.

Dr. Kalra conducts epidemiological research focusing on social determinants of health through the lifecourse. Her current research interests include health disparities, psychosocial factors, social support, social networks, neighborhood and area-level analysis, and cardiovascular disease.
