Monique M. Hedderson, PhD, is a staff scientist at the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Division of Research. She received her master's in public health from the University of Washington in 2000 and her PhD in epidemiology from the University of Washington in 2005. Dr. Hedderson's current research interests focus on perinatal epidemiology, with an emphasis on the roles of behaviors, genetics and biomarkers in the pathogenesis of gestational diabetes. She is interested in genetic epidemiology, particularly in applying genetic epidemiological methods to research of metabolic disorders related to perinatal and reproductive outcomes. Dr. Hedderson also has a long-standing research interest in lifestyle intervention studies to improve reproductive outcomes and maternal and child health.

Pilot Study to Assess Metformin Monotherapy Users and Genetic Variation in Response to Metformin

This pilot study in joint collaboration with the UCSF Pharmacogenetic Research Network, using Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) electronic data, will generate descriptive data to determine the number and demographics of patients identified in the KPNC diabetes registry who initiated metformin monotherapy during 2007.
