Welcome to the Web Site for the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Member Health Surveys Project
The Kaiser Permanente Member Health Surveys Project provides information about the demographics, health, behavioral health, and lifestyles of our adult membership in Northern California.
The Kaiser Permanente Northern California Member Health Survey has been conducted by Kaiser Permanente’s Division of Research every 3 years since 1993. The primary aims of this survey, which is funded by Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region's Community Benefit Program, are to:
- learn about the health-related needs and interests of the culturally diverse Kaiser Permanente Northern California adult membership, and by extension, members of the communities we serve;
- provide information for health services planners to make evidence-based decisions about health information and health care service delivery; and
- support research to improve the health of our members and the communities we serve.
The Member Health Survey is conducted using a confidential questionnaire covering sociodemographic characteristics, health, behavioral/lifestyle risk factors, and use of selected medicines, dietary supplements, and complementary and alternative therapies. It also asks about computer, Internet and email access and preferred methods for receiving information about health. Survey participants’ information can also be linked by Division of Research staff to information in Kaiser Permanente Northern California administrative and clinical databases by means of a unique identifier.
To serve the community, we invite health care planners, managers, researchers, and decision-makers outside as well as inside Kaiser Permanente to utilize the wealth of information that the surveys provide. Kaiser Permanente Northern California members represent 40% of the insured population of Northern California, and our members’ demographic and health characteristics are similar to those of other insured adults in Northern California.
This website, which can be reached at www.memberhealthsurvey.kaiser.org, is designed to help you learn more about our project and to share our survey results. On it you will find:
- information about the history, content and methodology of the Member Health Survey and how survey results have been used;
- profiles of the demographic and health-related characteristics of the adult membership in our Kaiser Permanente Northern California Region and in different medical center and subregion service populations; and
- reports and presentations on different topics
