Dr. Cynthia Campbell is a research scientist at the Division of Research, Kaiser Permanente Northern California, conducting research on the treatment of substance use problems. Her interests include adolescent substance use, access to treatment, chronic pain and substance use, and organizational factors related to these areas. She is currently the principal investigator of an NIAAA study examining alcohol problems in chronic pain patients and associated specialty services use. Dr. Campbell’s work also includes studying prescription opioid use in the health plan, and how high-deductible benefit plans impact access to substance use treatment. As a participant in the NIH Loan Repayment Program for Health Disparities Research, Dr. Campbell devotes a portion of her time studying health disparities across these studies. She received her doctorate in Public Health at the University of Michigan, and conducted her postdoctoral work at UCSF in a NIDA-funded fellowship on Substance Abuse and Health Services.
