Dr. Adams' work has focused on the determinants of suboptimal use of potentially beneficial health care services among disparities populations, including racial differences in medication adherence and the impact of changes in health policy on access to high quality health services and health outcomes for vulnerable patients. Dr. Adams is a member of the Kaiser Permanente Disparities Working Group and the Advisory Committee on Quality for the California Health Families Program.

Drug Cost Containment Changes and Quality of Care for Mentally Ill Dual Enrollees

This study will evaluate the impact of changes in drug cost containment policies associated with the shift from Medicaid to Part D drug coverage in four states (SC, MO, CA, NJ) among fee-for-service (non-managed care) dual enrollees with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder overall and in high risk subgroups (e.g., minorities).

Impact of Medicare Drug Benefit on Use and Cost-related Underuse of Medicines

Medicare beneficiaries before and after (2005-2007) implementation of the Medicare Modernization Act (MMA), with a particular focus on poor and chronically ill beneficiaries who qualify for substantially subsidized coverage and near-poor beneficiaries who do not.
